While death is a topic largely avoided in the United States, the
remembrance of deceased ancestors and loved ones is traditional among
diverse cultures around the globe, and is often marked by lighting
candles or lamps and laying out offerings of food and drink. Such
celebrations can be traced back as far as the glory days of ancient
Egypt where departed souls were honored during the great festival of
Osiris.
Join us during El Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican “Day of the Dead”
holiday, as we tell the stories of ancient traditions, and collectively
explore and create an “Offrenda,” a traditional ritual of honoring
death. Now is the time to look within, to contemplate our mortality, to
think about how we have spent our lives so far. It is a time to think
about how we are going to improve our habits so that we can make our
life’s dreams come true. When we examine our own personal relationship
with death, we open ourselves up to opportunities for deepening,
healing, new understanding, enlightenment, inspiration and communion.
There is so much life in the presence of death.
