Membership

Membership at the Center for Spiritual Living Denver is open to anyone 18 years or older who wishes to become a part of our vision and purpose.  As members of UCSL we abide by one of the most inclusive: non-discrimination statements ever drafted by any organization:

The United Center for Spiritual Living
Non-Discrimination Statement:

BE IT RESOLVED, that the United Center for Spiritual Living publicly proclaims and acknowledges itself to be an open and affirming denomination, where all persons are recognized, accepted and affirmed as unique, precious, and valued expressions of the Whole, of Spirit, regardless of sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic class, disability, creed, size, shape, or any other apparent condition of the human experience because we know the life of every person is the life of God.

To become a member we strongly encourage you to attend one of our afternoon orientation programs which is offered on a quarterly basis.  This will allow you to become familiar with us and for us to get to know you better.  The format also provides an open forum for your questions to be answered and for you to evaluate your part in the Center as well as the Center's role in your further spiritual development.  There is no cost for the orientation program, and it is open to all, whether or not you wish to become a member.

It should be noted that you do not have to become a member of the church to take part in any classes, workshops, or activities sponsored by the church, with the exception of serving on the Board of Trustees, or becoming a Licensed Practitioner.

Membership is about affirming your spiritual path and a commitment you make to the Center in supporting it's work.

“To Be or Not To Be?”
A Question of Membership!

By Lynette Reiling, R.Sc.P.

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to participate in a gathering of a dozen people who were intending to join Denver Church of Religious Science as members.  It was a step I was also taking on my spiritual path.  Part of our discussion was, what attracted us to become members of this particular church at this moment in our lives.

An overriding response was the sense of belonging.  Many echoed that Denver Church provides a sense of family, a heart church that feels like home.  Several folks had “shopped” other churches.  They just paid attention to the difference felt within when leaving each church.  A shift from “have to” to “want to” accompanied visits to Denver Church.  That signaled an inner sense of right timing to make a membership commitment.

I also heard that commitment to membership was about a conscious commitment to one’s own spiritual path.  Walking down that path accompanied by other like-minded travelers provides positive support and giving/receiving of unconditional love.  Becoming a member was making a declaration.  “This is my chosen spiritual path right now.”

As you read this article, I invite you to take a moment to think about your relationship with the Denver Church of Religious Science community.  Why do you attend this church?  What keeps you coming back?  After all, there are many other ways you could be spending your time.  If you have not yet declared a commitment of membership to Denver Church, could this be the right next step for you?
